BACKING UP
Backing up your Budget data is an important (CRITICAL) part of the
entire budgeting process.
Anything that is not backed up may be lost.
Backup Procedures:
[F7] Exit the PowerBudget program.
Confirm Exit.
Confirm Backup.
Backup to Floppy? (See Note below)
Confirm Begin.
PowerBudget will process the backup and housekeeping required for
optimum performance.
A series of boxes will be displayed vertically, each box will turn
green as it finishes processing.
When the last box turns green, it will briefly display Backup Complete
and then exit from the program.
If you have chosen Backup from the Utilities Menu, then you will be
returned to PowerBudget when done instead of exiting.

NOTE:
Backing up your data is INSURANCE. Backing up to floppy or some
other media (zip drive, CDW, etc.) on a regular basis is the BEST
INSURANCE. There are too many things that can happen which are
outside of your control, that can possibly create a loss of data
(ie: vandalism, fire, computer virus, hard drive crash, earthquake,
flood, etc.).
When backing up to floppy or other media, it is advisable to remove
the backup from the site so that the backup is not damaged/lost in
case of vandalism, fire, etc.
It is also recommended that high-quality media be used for backups
and that separate disks be used in a repeating fashion. For instance,
a possible backup plan could be as follows (using floppy disks
as an example):
On Monday: perform a floppy backup.
On Tuesday: perform a floppy backup on a different floppy.
On Wednesday: perform a floppy backup on a different floppy.
On Thursday: perform a floppy backup on a different floppy.
On Friday: perform a floppy backup on a different floppy.
Take the Friday floppy and mark it as the weekly backup for that week.
The following Monday, you can reuse the previous Monday's floppy.
Do this for the rest of the week except for Friday. On Friday use
a fresh floppy and mark it as the weekly backup for that week. You
now have 2 weekly backups and 4 daily backups.
Follow this procedure for a month. At the end of 4 weeks, the Friday
backup will be marked as a Monthly backup. Keep monthly backups for
6 months to a year.
Following this procedure will allow for data recovery with minimum
data entry required and it is protection against any of the backups
being bad (due to exposure to magnetic fields or other forms of
destruction).
In other words, if you experience a hard disk crash on a Wednesday
and have to recover from the Tuesday backup AND the Tuesday backup
has been damaged, you can go back to Monday... and then back to last
Friday if necessary... or the previous Thursday.... etc.
Use a fresh box of floppies periodically for your daily backups.
